2018 NMVB Face-to-Face Conference

The yearly NMVB Face-to-Face Conference kicked off on June 7, 2018 at the University of Pittsburgh by Michael J. Becich, MD, PhD. Attendance included Roswell Park Cancer Institute (Dr. Gaudioso), NYU Langone Medical Center (Dr. Pass), University of Maryland (Dr. Melamed), University of Pennsylvania (Dr. Feldman), University of Pittsburgh (Dr. Becich), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Joan Karr), and UMPC (Julie Ward) representatives. The group discussed everything from the previous years’ statistics to the NMVB’s tissue sample collection to future research and publications.

The meeting, held from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm, discussed the differences in epithelioid subtype morphologies and malignant pleural mesothelioma interactome discovery analysis. Dr. Doug Hartman drew on the importance of having consistent naming across the multiple types of peritoneal tissue morphologies. Madhavi Ganapathiraju gave examples of her forthcoming publication on her research in Interactome Discovery Analysis. They both gained important insight into where their research could continue to grow using NMVB.

The meeting concluded with several facts and figures about the general use of the NMVB database and the characteristics of the data already collected. This data included demographic, geographic, and occupational information and analysis to show the importance of survey collection along with tissue sample collection.
